For those that do not know, my position at Marketwire was eliminated in January of this year. Now, after 3 1/2 months of being unemployed, I’m excited to say that I have accepted a position as a Client Account Manager with Stockhouse Publishing Ltd.
Stockhouse is an amazing source for the investor community. Not only does it give investors the ability to manage their portfolio, it allows them to make valuable decisions regarding companies. My role will help companies tell their stories to the vast network of investors as well as help them market themselves online. I’m excited about the amazing opportunity the position offers and excited at where the company is heading. With my help our clients will benefit greatly!
It’s been a process getting to where I am today and I couldn’t have done it without the amazing support of my family, friends, career coach and my amazing social media networks. I am completely blessed to have you all in my life.
The process has taught me many valuable lessons, and I promise to blog about them in the future. I believe that what I’ve learned along the way will help anyone who is currently looking for employment.
So as of Monday, my “funployment” ends – not that it was really “fun” per-say, but I am happy to be getting back to work on Monday.
It’s official, I’m no longer on holidays.
I know it’s sad to some of you out there that I’m no longer in warmer weather, that I’m no longer just taking it easy, and that I’m no longer not thinking about work. Yes I’m now slowly settling back into my routine.
I have to admit I had hoped to have have blogged more when I was away. I have a few more posts that I have to write up and share my experience of the many areas of Buenos Aires as well as including a write up of my day trip to Montevideo Uruguay. Those posts will come in the next week or so. I have some great memories to share about the trip and some new appreciation for where I’m from.
In the interim I have a few other items that I will be blogging about shortly. I have an interesting contest coming up, and I’m late in getting that one off the road as well, but it’s coming. I also am thinking of starting up an editorial style calendar so I can be more consistent on this blog. I’ve been seeing that as a trend this year for bloggers to keep them on track and making it easier to produce content.
My calendar has also started to fill up again this month and I have a few events already scheduled for this week, so hopefully you will see me out there again.
So hopefully you are all happy to see me back, I know Junior sure is and Cyd is coming home later today.
What a crazy few days it has been and I have neglected my blog for far too long, so my apologies to all of you.
That said I’m gearing up for a busy couple of months of conferences starting this Friday with Northern Voice. I’m very excited about attending this for the second year, but this time I’m attending the full conference. I’m hoping to get some great new insight into the community as well as be able to connect with some great people all around.
The week after, I’m attending the BCAMA Vision Conference for my first time and I’m looking forward to it. This is a different type of conference that I’m used to as it deals mainly with Marketing and will have a different type of person than I’m usually used to.
The next day I head over to Calgary for some special training. I’ve accepted a board position with IABC-BC and will be involved with their Dare to Lead conference. Saddly Tanya and Barry are on their honeymoon so I won’t be able to visit with them. This will be a quick weekend trip in and out so I’m hoping to get in as much as possible as I’ve never visited Calgary before.
In June I head off to Toronto for the IABC World Conference. As it is in Toronto, I’ll be able to connect with my family for a few short days before and after. I love Toronto (let the hating begin), and it’s always fun to go back home and explore the city further. That city is so big and every time I visit I try to find a new place or area I’ve never been in all my years living in the area.
Right after the IABC Conference, I head to Regina for the CPRS National Conference. Last year I was involved in the great successful run in Vancouver and I’m looking forward to seeing some fellow colleagues as well as PR professionals from across Canada.
So I’m going to be a very busy man in the next couple of months. I’m excited about the new possibilities and the new direction my life is going.
I don’t know what it is these past couple of days, but it feels like I’m falling into a small slump and I’m not sure why. And before you say it, no it is not because of my birthday coming up this week, I’m actually looking forward to it. I’ve been looking forward to it for a few months now and planning on celebrating the whole year.
I guess you can say that this whole economic slowdown is starting to affect me. I’m starting to see some good people loose their jobs and I feel for them. I know others have been looking drastically for employment as well and I should feel great that I still have a job and an income coming in. I’m trying to keep upbeat about the whole thing too as this can’t last forever. Work has been putting on more and more pressures these days to produce and maybe I’m feeling that I’m just not “into” it anymore and need to challenge myself more. Could it be the routine is getting to me?
Am I the only one that is feeling alittle low these days? What are you doing to “snap” out of it.
Maybe when the weekend rolls around I will feel much better, or if that lottery win ever happens 🙂 Oops see there I just smiled.
There are things I hate about work (like everyone else does about their jobs), but then there are times I’m lucky to work where I do. I have the ability to bring Junior to work and have him stay with us for the day.
Of course he brings a smile to everyone’s face here at work and it helps during the stressful time of year. I enjoy the fact that most of my co-workers will pick up a ball and throw it for Junior to chase it and drop it back down again. Granted Junior usually gets tired very quickly and instead of sleeping down underneath my desk he perfers to be on my lap.
When I have him at the office, I have a perfect excuse to take more breaks, as I have to take him out on his pee breaks. With today’s weather here in Vancouver I works out perfectly.
