What could be better than reliving your 80′s prom? Fighting Chance Productions wants to offer one of my lucky readers two tickets to experience just that with the production of The Awesome 80′s Prom on Friday March 19th at the Vancouver Alpen Club.
The Awesome 80s Prom is a brand new blast-from-the-past party in the style of Tony ‘n Tina’s Wedding set at Wanaget High’s Senior Prom… in 1989! All your favorite characters from your favorite ’80s movies are at THE PROM, from the Captain of the Football Team to the Asian Exchange Student, from the Geek to the hottie Head Cheerleader, and they’re all competing for Prom King and Queen. And just like on “American Idol”, the audience decides who wins! Come back in time and join the breakdance circle or just sit back and watch the ’80s drama unfold.
So how do you win the tickets? Well leave a comment on this post or tweet this and tell me about your high school prom. Was it in the 80′s like mine? Did you have the mullet or teased out hair? Did you dance to Madonna, Dead or Alive or OMD? I’ll be drawing the winner this Thursday at 3pm.
If you don’t win you can also buy tickets for the March 19th or March 20th performance.
I’m looking forward to attending myself and reliving some of those moments in time. I was hoping to have some of my old ’87 prom photos scanned, but alas my computer wasn’t cooperating with me when writing this post.
Update: Some of my prom photos. Yup that’s me in the hat.

Congrats to Rich Patterson who was the lucky winner of the draw! Enjoy the your prom!

Ah, yes. June 1988 was Prom. White tux with tails and red cumberbund/bowtie. Not really flattering when you’re 6’4″ and 270lbs. But it seemed like a good idea at the time. And those massive oversize glasses frames? Why? Looking back on pics now and I wonder what the hell. I took a girl from my work — she was older and therefore I thought my chances of getting some action were greater. But, again, reference my tux and the huge glasses and my chances were nil. Now, 22 years later I really don’t remember much about the Prom. I remember the ugly outfit and my date. Other than that, the evening is a blur.

Wohooo! Definitely entering. Funnily enough, I just made a post that talked about my high school grad/prom where I sewed my dress!
Prom was fun. My boyfriend at the time flew up from LA, I made my own dress and wore it to the event, and had a great time with friends and family! The after grad car rally was a whole ‘nother story though…
Great contest! Thanks Gus!
Let’s see – my prom date left me to sleep with my friend who set him up to be my date. Good times
Oh and I was probably dressed stupid too.
My Grad was the early 90′s, but I wish it was in the Awesome 80′s!
Central Alberta in the 90′s was certainly not the Metropolis it has grown into today, and kids in those days had 2 choices: Safe Grad, where they would bus you to a field to drink beside a giant bonfire. No one asked how these kids got booze, they just turned a blind eye and dropped off their drunk asses at 2am in the school parking lot for their parents to deal with; or Dry Grad, where the uncool, Christian kids went to an abandoned summer camp and danced and played games and yadda yadda yadda, but no booze.
I wanted the best of both worlds, so I went to Dry Grad, but got totally wasted before.
I think I had a good time. It was so long ago that I rearely think about it and I am not one of those people who thought it was the best time of their life, so really, I was just waiting for it all to be over.
My prom was only two years ago; however, I was twenty pounds heavier and my best friend ate too many special brownies and professed his love for me… which he later denied. We did the chicken dance, the electric slide. I might have shed a tear during the Graduation Song. Prom was a blast. Oh, except for when my dad got too drunk and embarrassed me in front of my friends. But who doesn’t love a buffet dinner?
You guys all rock. What great memories. As you can see I’ve updated it with some of my own prom photos. Yup that’s me with the hat (what was I thinking?)
My prom was 97. I had a nasty bout of food poisoning that week and the dinner was the first solid food I had on 5 days. On the plus side I looked great in my dress. On the down side I couldn’t handle the solid food. Consequently I ralfed in the ladies room, was caught by a teacher who accused me of drinking and almost got kicked out.
