Preventable Christmas

I can’t believe Christmas is tomorrow, it’s amazing how quickly the season returns.

Last week I attended a blogger information session from Preventable where Dr. Ian Pike highlighted the Communities initiative for winter sports safety. Preventable is all about making individuals aware that accidents can happen, but the majority can be avoided if we take precautions. As I am not a skier, it was amazing to find out how many skiers and snowboarders still do not wear helmets or wear the wrong helmets while on the slopes (yes folks, bike helmets are not to be used while skiing as they are only good for one fall).

We might all remember earlier this year Natashia Richardson’s skiing accident which caused her untimely death. Not only was she not wearing a helmet, but she was only on a “bunny slope” at the time. Brain injuries can be prevented by wearing a helmet folks.

During Christmas it’s all about enjoy time with friends and family, so think twice before you stretch on a ladder to put up lights, think twice before you go down a slope without a helmet, think twice before run across a street, think twice before you get behind the wheel after a few drinks.

Have an enjoyable Preventable Christmas!

I have a blog post waiting about this too! Though it might have to wait until we’re down in Costa Rica.

I’m not surprised about the helmet numbers. I see it all the time, especially among males. I keep wanting to not use my helmet, but it gives me piece of mind for when I fall, I have a much higher chance of NOT cracking my melon open the bonus is that it keeps my ears and head warm ;) Whistler at -20 or less really sucks so anything to keep us warm is good!

Early in the last season I took a couple spills with my helmet on and yes I still got a bit jarred but what if I wasnt wearing it? Crazy thoughts…

Was good seeing you again Gus!

It must have a great information night, Would have loved to attend.

Its not just putting up the lights but also be careful about taking them down. If I was into skiing or snowboarding I would so wear a helmet as you just never know..

I really hope they do one about out water sports here in BC, I see a lot of kayakers and what not without a pfd on, as they want to work on their tan and yet most people who do water sports can not swim. Boggles my mind. Safety should always come 1st before play.

hey Gus great seeing you that night. I never wore a helmet before snowboarding (I learned in a time when helmets were not commonly worn and seen as uber dorky) but since working on this campaign, I’m definitely buying one before i go again.
