Goodbye Goatee, Hello Mo

Today marks the day that I begin a 30 day process of growing a mustache. Grow a mustache you say? Don’t you already have a goatee? Yes, but today I have shaved off the goatee, completely gone folks, and I begin to grow a mustache in support of Movember.

What is Movember? Movember is an annual month long celebration of the mustache or “MO”. This full month we grow our mustache in support of men’s health issues – specifically prostate cancer.

The idea for Movember was sparked in 2003 over a few beers in Melbourne, Australia.  The guys behind it joked about 80s fashion and decided it was time to bring the moustache back.  In order to justify their Mos (Australian slang for moustache), they used their new looks to raise money for prostate cancer research… never dreaming that facial hair would ultimately lead to a global movement that would get men talking about a taboo subject – their health.

I’ll be participating with in a team called Twi’stache Vancouver comprising of some great Vancouver men and women (yes women can participate too but garnering support for the cause – no female mo’s needed). You can donate to my cause and help me raise some funds for the Canadian Prostate Cancer.

I don’t have any specific goal, but any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. I’ll update you throughout the month and show you how my MO is doing. I must admit I haven’t been clean shaven in over 15 years and this is a shock … for now. I’m hoping to grow a nice handle-bar mustache as shown in this preview photo I took today.

My goatee used to hide my double chin, alas my double chin will be in full view for a month to come.
