On Saturday Russ, Theresa and myself headed early from downtown Vancouver to Fort Langley for their Cranberry Festival. We were heading out early at 8am to get there early enough to enjoy their pancake breakfast that was advertised.
Arriving into Fort Langley through some early morning fog, we drove into the downtown street to find parking. We ended up parking right beside the area where the pancake breakfast was being held. We quickly got in line for the breakfast that cost $5 for pancakes, sausages, coffee and juice (not bad I think).
Luckily, or as I like to say, unluckily, we sat right across the Fort Langley Conservative member who was running for election, Mark Warawa. Granted he was fairly quiet, but his wife was another matter. I recall hearing her talking with someone else saying that she “prayed for this and happened”. What exactly she prayed for I am not sure, but it let us know that we were no longer in the downtown core. It let us know that we were in a bible area and we should be careful what we say for fear of being burnt at the steak or something worse.
After our hearty breakfast, we started to walk around the town and looking at all the merchants selling their wears all celebrating the cranberry. Russ and Theresa both picked up some fresh honey made from the blossoms of the cranberry.
We had an awesome time that morning walking around the town. We even walked through the cemetary (which I wished we were there earlier to take photos with the fog), and marvelled at the history of Fort Langley.
The festival was getting into full swing when we decided to leave and head back downtown, but we were greeted by a dumb driver who pretty much parked so close to us that his front bumper was touching out back bumper. This gave us no room to get out and leave and were shocked that someone would have parked this way. We were also surprised by how many people were also shocked by the way they had parked. We managed to contact the RCMP and they filled out a report. Luckily there as no damage to our bumper, but I think the owner of that vehicle will be surprised to find a ticket on his car or better yet that his car was towed.
You can find some more photos over at Theresa’s photo gallery.

by the way, Mark Wawara got elected in his riding. Maybe that’s what his wife was praying for.
