Yesterday as a “day trip” Russ and myself decided to head out to Agassiz and partake in the Agassiz Fall Fair.
In 2008 we celebrate the 104th Fall Fair and 60th Corn Festival. There will be special celebrations for the Diamond Anniversary of the Corn Festival and we will celebrate the “Year of Corn”. There are special corn exhibit categories to help celebrate the event. See the exhibit book for the details. Included in the activities will be a parade, stage entertainment, midway, corn husking, livestock, 4-H exhibits, educational displays, antique tractor pull, home arts, photography, farmer’s market, kids’ corn’r, crafts, flowers and vegetables. The crowning of the Corn King or Queen will take place on the stage. There is always some of the traditional fair activities and something new.
The midway fair grounds was fun and full of kids and young adults having lots of fun. I was tempted at trying some of the rides, but I chickened out as I’m usually skeptical of the safety of them (though I’m sure they are perfectly safe). I wasn’t sure how much the rides were either and I couldn’t seem to find the place to purchase the ride tickets. It would have been fun to have been there during the evening to see the full lights of the rides going.
Russ and I walked around the grounds, admiring the fair food and we even bought some candy apples.
Since we got there fairly late in the day, we missed the dog show, the lawnmower races (damn), and we just got the last bit of the milking goat contest. Side note, boy goat’s can produce alot of milk.
I know my father and mother would have enjoyed the Agricultural Hall where they had prizes given out for crops, textiles, flowers, and other items.
You can see more photos of the event on my Flickr page.
Overall it was a fun way to spend the afternoon away from the downtown core of Vancouver.
